Jamaica's oldest living person, Ida Troupe of Tivoli Gardens in West Kingston, celebrated her 117th birthday on Christmas Day.

Troupe, who is a retired vendor, was officially honoured at a special ceremony hosted by Local Government and Community Development Minister, Desmond McKenzie, who is also the Member of Parliament for West Kingston.

Troupe attained the same age as the late Violet Moss-Brown from Duanvale in Trelawny, who was officially certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest verifiable living person, back in July of this year.
