Created : 4 July 2020
Visits have resumed at homes for the aged and long-stay residential homes. However, this will only be done by appointments.
Advisor of Health Promotion, Communications and Public Health, Dr Rohit Doon made the announcement while speaking at the Ministry of Health's virtual media briefing on Saturday.
In making the announcement, he noted that there have been no COVID-19 cases at these facilities.
"I am pleased to report there have been no cases of COVID-19 in any of these facilities. That's good news."
Dr Doon added that there were requests to reintroduce visitors at the facilities, and the Ministry of Health has agreed.
He said he met with the stakeholders recently and specific guidelines were developed.
"All visitors will have to be admitted by appointments only. On the phone, we can do a quick symptom check to ensure that they don't have any fever, cough or any COVID-19 symptoms, otherwise they will certainly not be allowed to enter and visit."
"These visits will be conducted in an open air setting. Wearing of masks (is) mandatory, hand hygiene (is) mandatory. For the residents, they too will have have to wear masks during the course of visits by relatives or friends."
