A 45-year-old man of Vistabella was granted $100,000 bail when he appeared before the Siparia Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with arson.

Kyle Richards, unemployed, of Hubert Ranch Street, Vistabella, San Fernando was arrested and charged by PC Kunjal of the Oropouche Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday.

The arrest came in connection with a report of arson in the district on Saturday, in which the victim reported to police that a man who has relations with his daughter was allegedly seen leaving her room after it was set ablaze.

The victim and his neighbours managed to extinguish the fire.

Cpl (Ag) Thompson and PCs Hosein and Kunjal responded to the report and launched enquiries which led to a suspect surrendering to police at the Oropouche Police Station later that day.

Richards was immediately arrested and charged for arson by PC Kunjal.

He will reappear in court on September 1.
