Warrant issued for police officer

After a police officer failed to attend court to testify as a prosecution witness, a warrant has been ordered for his detention.

The officer, a police constable, was scheduled to attend court to testify in a case, however, he failed to attend.

LoopTT was told a summons was served to him on Tuesday at the Gasparillo Police Station.

However, despite this, the officer still failed to attend court on Thursday when the matter was called.

The enquiry is against Candace Dieal, who has been charged with the wilful neglect of two children, ages ten and three years old, in a manner likely to cause suffering to their physical health.

The charges stem from an incident which allegedly occurred on December 14, 2018.

PC Nicole St John of the Child Protection Unit is the complainant in the matter.

When the matter was called before Magistrate Jo-Ann Connor in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court, an application was made by police prosecutor Sgt Cleyon Seedan for a warrant to be issued for the officer’s appearance, so that the proceedings could be completed.

The warrant was granted.

The matter is expected to be recalled on August 23.
