WASA worker in court for McDonald's manager's murder

Israel Jabarry Durant, 21, has appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate charged with the murder of McDonald’s restaurant manager Ashmeed Mohammed.
Durant, AKA “WASA” and “Barry” also appeared on charges of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and robbing another McDonald’s employee of a $900 cellphone during the incident, which took place on May 20.
The 21-year-old appeared before Chief Magistrate Maria Busby Earle Caddle in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Eighth Court.
After further submissions to the court, including which the State was asked to provide disclosure to the defence within a reasonable time, the matter was adjourned.
It is expected to resume on August 8.
Mohammed, of Vega de Oropouche, Sangre Grande, was fatally shot at McDonald’s Cipriani Boulevard, Port of Spain, branch on May 20.
He was ambushed by three armed assailants.
Last Thursday, Durant, who is a WASA Employee, was arrested at his workplace in St Helena.
