Washington University of Barbados Director, CEO remanded for fraud

The Chief Executive officer (CEO) and one Director of Washington University of Barbados are in prison in Barbados. They return to court next month.

The 33-year-old Deoraj Jaimangal Dalchand of Jacaranda Circle, Apple Drive, Union, St. Philip, a Director of Washington University (Barbados) Inc. located at Casa Grande, Oldbury, St. Philip appeared at the District ‘C’ Magistrates court yesterday, Monday, October 15, 2018, before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch where he was charged with the following offences:

In the District ‘C’ Jurisdiction:

1. Three counts of Evading Liability at Casa Grande Inc. for three dishonoured cheques totalling $210,000.00 Barbados Currency.

In the District ‘A’ jurisdiction

1. One count of Evading Liability at Furniture Ltd. T/S Builders Value Mart for one dishonoured cheque totalling $30,000.00 Barbados Currency.

He was not required to enter a plea to any of the charges as they are all indictable.  

Dalchand was remanded to prison to HMP Dodds along with co-accused Rao Venkata Gopi, 42 years of Falcon Crest, Tuscany, Oldbury, St. Philip. Gopi is the CEO of Washington University (Barbados) Inc. located at Casa Grande, Oldbury, St. Philip. Gopi also reappeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch but was also not required to plead.

Both accused are scheduled to reappear at the District 'C' Court on November 12, 2018.
