Watch: Boat sinks off Chaguaramas, 23 people rescued

A boat carrying 23 people sank off Chaguaramas on Saturday morning.

No casualties were reported and all those on board were rescued.

The incident is reported to have occurred around 10am.

The boat was en route to Scotland Bay.


Members of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard responded and assisted with the rescue of the passengers.


In a statement, the Coast Guard around 10:45am, it was contacted and informed that a yacht named ‘MISS PEG’ with 23 people on board was taking in water, in the vicinity of the Chaguaramas Heliport, south of the Chaguaramas Military Museum.

It two Coast Guard vessels were deployed to assist in the rescue operation.

Nearby civilian vessels also aided in the rescue and transportation of persons from the sinking vessel to the shore.

The Coast Guard said all persons were safe and accounted.
