Calypso Rose has received a French National Award.

Rose, real name, Linda McCartha Sandy-Lewis, today received the Officer of Arts and Humanities medal, one of the highest honours among the French Ministerial Orders of Merit.

Rose received the award at the French Embassy in Port-of-Spain from Ambassador Serge Lavroff.

The honour was conferred on Calypso Rose in a letter from French Culture Minister Franck Reister, dated May 31, 2019, but he official presentation of the award was delayed to coincide with the singer's 80 birthday and 65 years as a Calypso performer. Rose will turn 80 on April 27.

Three years ago Calypso Rose won the Best World Music Award at the Victoire de la Musique, the French version of the Grammy awards.
