Major destruction was reported on Sunday afternoon, as the eye of catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane Dorian continues to crawl over the Abaco Islands in Bahamas.

The dangerous hurricane made a second landfall at 2pm on Great Abaco Island near Marsh Harbour, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Dorian is tied for the strongest Atlantic hurricane landfall on record with the 1935 Labour Day hurricane.

Hundreds of people were forced to evacuate their homes and seek refuge at shelters.

 

Meanwhile, the NHC in an update at 5pm said, the core of extremely dangerous Hurricane Dorian will continue to pound Great Abaco on Sunday evening and move near or over Grand Bahama Island tonight and Monday.

 

It added that the hurricane will move dangerously close to the Florida east coast late Monday through Tuesday night.
