WATCH: Clean your phone, help stop the spread of the coronavirus

The rapid spread of the coronavirus has seen authorities making incessant pleas for people to wash their hands.

Research shows that the virus can live on plastic and stainless steel surfaces for up to three days. Because of this, it is imperative that high-touch areas like phones and other devices are cleaned frequently.

You can clean your phone in a few easy steps.

Start by switching off the device, removing the case and unplugging all cables.

Major phone manufacturers advise against using chemicals, hand gels and abrasive wipes on the device as this could damage the screens protective coating.

A microfiber cloth dampened with soap and water could easily do the trick, but you must be careful not to get moisture into any of the openings.

Once this is done, wipe the device with a dry microfiber cloth before returning to its case.

Remember, your hands are breeding grounds for germs, which are transferred to your phone every time you touch it.
