Drivers are being warned to obey the nation's road traffic laws after a viral video shows a driver turning onto a highway, slamming into a cyclist who was under police escort, then driving away.

The video was taken by fellow cyclist Alfred Patrick who recorded the incident on his helmet cam.

The cyclist was travelling along the highway escorted by police, who cleared the intersection in order for the cyclists to pass, when the incident happened.

Road safety advocacy group Arrive Alive shared the video on Sunday, warning drivers to beware.

"Drunk and reckless drivers be aware the TTPS are on to you...This driver was arrested! Respect cyclists and pedestrians at all times even if they are not paying attention to their own safety," the group said.

It was reported that the cyclist, thankfully, was not seriously injured.
