Watch: Flash flooding in Diego Martin after heavy showers

Citizens are advised to exercise caution after photos and video footage showed flash flooding in parts of North and South Trinidad.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management confirmed reports of flash flooding near the Diego Martin Highway.

“The ODPM is receiving reports of flash flooding in parts of Bagatelle, Diego Martin. Additionally the Diego Martin River levels are currently high.”

“Persons living or commuting along the river bank are advised to monitor the conditions and take precautionary measures to safe guard life and property. If in the area, get to higher ground. Wait until the flood water subsides. Use alternative routes, where possible,” the ODPM said.

Video footage showed the Diego Martin close to breaching its banks in some areas.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government reported flash flooding along the Couva Main Road.
