Machel Montano has long expressed his goal to take soca to the corners of the earth and on Friday he moved a little closer to that when he performed in Japan for the first time.
Montano performed at the Yosakoi Festival and will perform on Monday at Club Cactus.
The Yosakoi Festival in Kochi, Japan, is one of the country's largest festivals featuring multiple stages with various attractions and parades through the streets with costumed dancers and music.
"To be surrounded by these masqueraders dancing to Soca, Pan and Chutney mixed with Japanese traditional music was one of the most magical moments of my life !!!! I've dreamt of coming to Japan for a long time and started bringing Japanese Djs , Dancers and Singers to T&T, knowing our culture will find its way back to their shores. My motto has always been ...."Make music reflecting the highest expression of who I am and take it to the corners of the globe " .....Well what a joy it is to see Soca music reach into the hearts of many !!! I think it's time for a Quantum Leap !!!" he wrote on Instagram.
After his performance, Montano joined the street parade where a group of West Indians followed his truck.
Montano took a break from his busshead tour with Bunji Garlin.
He will rejoin Garlin for the London leg of the tour which takes place on August 25.
