Ysabel Bisnath (centre) was crowned Miss World Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday 5 August.

On Sunday 5 August, Ysabel Bisnath’s name resounded over the speakers at the National Academy for the Performing Arts as she was declared the nation’s Miss World representative for 2018.

The 25-year-old attorney-at-law has a significant resume under her belt – she is a former national scholarship winner who studied law at Oxford University, taught English in China and undertook an internship in Italy before returning home to join the legal team at the Ministry of Education.

Loop caught up with the beauty queen during the week after her crowning to get some insight into the woman, the road ahead of her, and her perspective on how pageantry fits in with the idea of today’s ‘modern woman’.

Bisnath, who already speaks three languages, is now adding Chinese to her repertoire as she prepares for the international leg of the Miss World pageant, which takes place in Sanya, China on December 8.
