Watch: The Bungalow to offer patrons high end casual dining

The Bungalow Trinidad, a restaurant well situated at the corner of Gray and Rust Streets, St. Clair is the muse of local fashion favourite Charu Lochan Dass and her husband Navneet Boodhai.

The oriental style restaurant which boasts of local and international fused appetizers, meals and drinks, and is accompanied with tasteful décor, music, atmosphere, and lighting to match its unique taste and style.

Speaking at the official opening on Friday, November 9, the husband and wife team said the concept and idea for the restaurant took approximately nine weeks to outfit and implement - no easy feat, but it was a longtime dream of Lochan Dass.  “This has always been one of my dreams," she said. "Most people know me as a fashion designer, but now I am venturing into the food business and I am extremely pleased and excited for all those persons seeking out a different type of atmosphere to join us at The Bungalow.”

The duo said they were searching for property to create a new fashion boutique space giving an enhanced showroom space with the ability to host small events. They said the Rust Street location was ideal for that, however, at the time the location was still outfitted with some restaurant equipment and furniture and seeing how easily it could be transformed into a restaurant they both took the bold step to pursue this avenue.

Aside from the delectable food and serene atmosphere, The Bungalow offers patrons the opportunity to experience the canopy of the Port- of-Spain skies with the option of using the ambient lit outdoor lounge area. Boodhai said, “For those who enjoy the outdoorsy type of atmosphere, you can feel right at home here. We offer premium cocktails, tapas and even hookahs for those not looking for a full dining experience.”

Some of the mouthwatering dishes being offered are Cantaloupe Salad, Pabellon Spring Rolls, Aromatic Grilled Shrimp Pasta and Chicken Medallion Al Brady and other scrumptious meals, which are all prepared by Chef Wilmer Mago who trained at Le Cordon Bleu, a culinary arts and hospitality management institute located in France.

As for the name – The Bungalow, Mrs. Lochan Dass said one day while she was at the establishment the name just came to her as it is a single-story former dwelling, “I wanted a neutral theme – not too restaurant-ish or too clubby. Food and fashion go well together seeing how easily the premises could be transformed into an outdoor restaurant and lounge.”

The restaurant is opened Tuesdays to Thursdays from 4 PM to 12 AM, and Friday to Saturdays from 4 PM to 2 AM, with secure basement and upper floor parking facilities located at a nearby property.
