Santa Flora residents have reported sightings of oil seeping in to drains in the community.
According to environmental watchdog group Fishermen and Friends of the Sea (FFOS) an onshore pipeline near Santa Flora ruptured two days ago, and since then, unknown quantities of oil have spilled into the waterways and running through nearby residential areas.
The FFOS says some residents have complained of a pungent scent of oil.
The group is now advising pregnant women and children against exposure to these strong scented hydrocarbons.
It claimed that there has been no activated emergency response outside of a limited oil recovery operation.
The FFOS is calling for action from the relevant agencies to ensure the health and safety of the residents are not adversely affected.
