Watch: Police make major firearm, ammunition haul in Belmont

Nine AR15 rifles along with a large quantity of ammunition were found and seized by officers of the Port of Spain Division during an anti-crime exercise in the Belmont district on Thursday night.

The intelligence-led operation was spearheaded by ACP Williams and Snr. Supt. Moore, Supt Ablack, Supt Rampath, ASP Cumberbatch and supervised by Insp. McGuirk, Insp Walker, Sgt. Alexander and Sgt. Parris, including officers of the Besson Street Operation Unit, Port of Spain Division Task Force, Belmont Operations Unit and the City Police.


While conducting several road checks last night, the team of officers went to the St Francois Valley Road Plannings area, where they conducted several searches. The officers stopped and searched a Nissan Almera, where they discovered a quantity of ammunition and two speaker boxes. Upon examining the speaker boxes, officers discovered eight AR15 rifles unassembled along with 12 magazines hidden inside.

During a subsequent search of a Nissan B15, another AR15 rifle was found.

Nine people are now in police custody assisting police with their ongoing investigations into these finds.
