WATCH: Sahara storms turn snow orange in Russia

Skiers and snowboarders in Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Romania encountered something unexpected this weekend when they hit the slopes – the snow had turned orange.

The freak conditions were caused by storms in north Africa which swept up sand from the Sahara Desert into the atmosphere, only for it to fall across much of eastern Europe.

Skiers posted photos on social media from resorts that looked like eerie Martian landscapes.

This is not the first time that something like this happened. In 2007, orange-tinted snow also fell in Siberia due to a sandstorm.
