Watch: Salon owner seeks to improve hair industry with new invention Laura Dowrich-Phillips Created : 15 August 2018 Lifestyle Afiya Hopson has been braiding hair since she was 14. When she did her degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of the West Indies, Hopson married her passion for braiding with her degree, creating a workstation for her final thesis. The workstation is designed to create a more efficient work process for braiders and is ergonomic as it prevents constant bending. Though Hopson initially used her invention in her salon, Hair? Braid It! located in Belmont, she recently started manufacturing the workstations to sell to other salons in Trinidad and Tobago. Hopson, who is also the author of The Hair Braid It Manual, is also looking to sell her invention overseas. We met with the young businesswoman who explained her new product to us.
