Watch: Suave Natural Hair Collection launches in Trinidad and Tobago
Suave Professionals has created a collection specifically tailored for women with natural hair.
The Suave Professionals for Natural Hair Collection was co-created, developed and tested with 5,000 natural women. The hair care products were “real-life tested, natural hair approved” by women with wavy, curly and coily hair.
Suave is part of a global movement of brands embracing the natural hair trend as many women go back to their roots and start loving and caring for the hair they were born with.
The Suave Professionals for Natural Hair range of products--Unilever brand--was launched on May 17 The LofTT Gallery in Port of Spain.
The launch included a private screening of “Black Hair”, a documentary short that premiered at the 2018 Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival (TTFF). Natural hair champion and model Gabriella Bernard’s hair journey was the subject of the movie “Black Hair”. In the film, directed by French filmmaker Miquel Galofre, Gabriella spoke candidly about the stereotypes and struggles of natural hair women in the fashion industry.
The six-product collection is made with pure coconut oil and natural shea butter and is meant to nourish and hydrate. The line includes a Gentle Sulfate-free Cleansing Shampoo; Moisturizing Curl Conditioner; Nourish and Strengthen Leave-in Conditioner; Curl Cream Detangling Spray; Curl Defining Cream and Define and Shine Serum Gel.
“It has been quite a journey that has taken several years,” Piyush Jain, General Manager and Vice President of Marketing Hair Care US at Unilever, said of the line’s development in a previous interview. “From the very beginning, we knew that we wanted to have the input of the woman that this collection is created for. We spent time with 5,000 women with natural hair talking about what works for their natural hair, what doesn’t, what they need and what they don’t.
"They spoke, and we listened. We mixed, blended, tried and tested until we got it right to create products designed specifically for women with curls, coils, and waves. Additionally, we put the collection to the test with co-creators and inspirational influencers with diverse natural hair types, styles, and lifestyles who’ve tested the products in real-life conditions.”
