WATCH: TTCB, SPORTT to host a T-20 benefit match to aid Dominica
One over at a time.
This is how the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago, Queen’s Park Cricket Club and the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board plan to build back hurricane-hit Dominica and neighbouring islands.
A Cricket Hurricane Relief Fund has been set up at First Citizens Bank, where the proceeds from a benefit T20 match featuring a West Indies select team versus a Trinidad and Tobago Red Force team will be collected. Donations from the public will also be accepted.
The match will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval on Saturday, October 14, starting at 7pm. Former West Indies Captain, Darren Sammy will captain the West Indies select team while Kieron Pollard will captain the Trinidad and Tobago team.
Dinanath Ramnarine, Chairman of SPORTT, in announcing the event at a launch on Wednesday at the Queen’s Park Oval, said, “The intention for this charity event is to use sport as the unifying force for good that we all know it is and can be”.
Sammy said “I must admit over the last month or so…there hasn’t been much to smile about our neighbouring islands and you know you try to ask God why certain things happen and you can’t find the reason”.
Pollard was also in high praise of the event and said, “We’re looking forward to coming together as one and entertaining the people of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean for a good cause”.
Citizens are asked to contribute to the First Citizens account # 2441289 in the name of Cricket Hurricane Relief Fund. Tickets go on sale from Friday, September 29 at all NLCB outlets, at a cost of TT$100. Children under 12 are free.
Further details on the upcoming event including the full team rosters will follow.
