Watch: T&TEC restoring power after fire at Pt Lisas substation
An early morning fire at T&TEC’s Savonetta Substation is being investigated while operations were underway to restore supply to affected customers. The company said electricity was restored around 11.30 am.
According to initial reports from T&TEC, around 7:30 a.m. a fire broke out on one of the Commission's two transformers at its Savonetta, Pt Lisas, Substation.
This substation supplies electricity to some industrial customers on the Pt Lisas estate as well as residential customers in Phoenix Park, Cedar Hills and environs.
The fire affected the transformer and ancillary equipment but was quickly extinguished by the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services. The substation was not occupied at the time.
The company said industrial customers were back on supply by 12.30pm, with the exception of one industrial customer who was carrying out internal checks before resuming their supply.
T&TEC’s engineers carried out checks to determine the source of the fire and to carry out repairs.
The company said as of Friday afternoon, there was nothing to suggest that anything unusual led to the fire, adding that the substation structure remains intact.
