Weapons among illegal items seized at Maximum Security Prison

Several illegal items including weapons and other dangerous articles were found and seized at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca on Saturday.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, in a statement on Monday said the items were found around 2pm during a routine search exercise.

It said these search exercises are an ongoing and integral part of the Prison Service’s safety and security management arsenal and are carried out on a regular and continual basis.

The Prison Service said the confiscation of these illegal and unauthorised items signals the ongoing efforts by the officers to rid the nation’s prisons of items.

Acting Commissioner of Prisons Dane Clarke saluted officers of the Prison Service, who he says take up the daunting task of maintaining security and a safe environment in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.
