Update:

A Morvant man and St. James woman were arrested in connection with a string of robberies in the Gasparillo, Princes Town and Ste. Madeleine districts, following the robbery and beating of a 37-year-old Williamsville man at his business place.

Officers of the Southern Division arrested the 31-year-old man and 29-year-old woman along the M2 Ring Road, Ste. Madeleine on Saturday, just minutes after a report of robbery was made by the Williamsville businessman.

The victim, who was conducting sales at a lotto booth in his business place along Garth Road, Williamsville, was reportedly approached by two armed men who announced a robbery.

A struggle ensued, resulting in the victim being beaten with a piece of iron.

He subsequently handed over a quantity of cash before the men made their escape in a silver Nissan Tiida hatchback.

Officers on mobile patrol in the area responded to the report and observed a vehicle matching the description of the car involved in the incident, proceeding along a dirt track off Malgretoute Road.

The officers then intercepted the vehicle with four occupants; three men and a woman.

Another two suspects managed to escape, whilst the other man and woman were held.

They were arrested and taken to the Gasparillo and Princes Town Police Stations, pending charges.

A quantity of the stolen cash has been recovered.

Insp. Don Gajadhar of the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department is continuing enquiries.
