Woman, 64, beaten and choked during robbery

A 64-year-old woman was beaten and bound Monday morning as a man stole four Bullfinch birds belonging to her son.

The incident took place around 8 am along the Cunapo Southern Road, in Navet Village, Rio Claro.

According to police reports, the victim was at home when she heard her dogs barking.

Upon investigating, she found a man holding two bird cages which belongs to her son.

She confronted the man and asked him what he was doing.

However, in response the man attacked the 64-year-old woman and choked her.

He then bound the victim by her hands and feet with pieces of cloth in the house.

The assailant then escaped with four bird cages containing four Bullfinch birds.

The woman was able to eventually free herself and she notified the police.

A team of officers led by Sgt Maharaj are continuing inquiries.
