Woman arrested for armed robbery of Chinese grocery
A 25-year-old woman who allegedly pulled a firearm on workers during a robbery at Zhang’s Supermarket in Balmain, Couva, on Tuesday, has been arrested.
The incident was captured on CCTV footage and showed the woman and two accomplices pulling a gun on a worker, and announcing a hold-up.
The trio began to rob the workers and customers at the supermarket before they escaped.
Due to information which was given to police by members of the public, the suspect was held on Wednesday at an apartment along Orchard Gardens, San Fernando.
The accused is expected to be questioned as police seek to identify the two other persons who aided in the crime.
Following this, the woman will be charged and brought before a Chaguanas Magistrate.
On Wednesday night, officers from the Couva Police Station and the Southern Division Task Force, led by Sgt Deosaran, received intelligence which led them to the home in San Fernando where the woman was detained.
Some of the stolen items were also recovered.
