Woman claims self defence after stabbing man in chest

Police are expected to approach the Director of Public Prosecutions today for instructions on how to proceed against a 22-year-old woman who reportedly stabbed an ex-boyfriend in the chest, leaving him in a critical condition.

Up to today, the victim, a 35-year-old man, is said to still be warded at the Sangre Grande District Hospital. His lung was reportedly punctured during the confrontation with the 22-year-old woman, who stabbed him with a pair of scissors.

The incident reportedly took place at the woman’s home in Duranta Gardens, Sangre Grande.

The victim reportedly went to the home of the 22-year-old to have a discussion on their relationship which had recently ended.

The discussion reportedly became heated during which, the 35-year-old man was stabbed once in the chest.

He was rushed for medical treatment and is said to be in a stable condition.

However, the 22-year-old woman has since told police that she was initially assaulted by the 35-year-old man and that she only grabbed the scissors to defend herself.

As there are no eye-witnesses to the incident, police are said to be seeking legal advice on how to best proceed in this matter.

More on this as it becomes available.
