A woman is dead and a man is warded in a serious condition, following an accident along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Janine Carr-Weekes of Lime Boulevard, Santa Rosa Heights, Arima.
The crash occurred in the Trincity/Piarco area and caused a massive traffic pile-up on the east and west bound lanes.
According to reports, the woman was in a Toyota Hilux vehicle when the driver lost control and hit a light pole.
She later succumbed to her injuries.
Road Safety group, Arrive Alive is pleading with drivers to adapt to road conditions, following yesterday's crash.
The group is also calling for barriers along the highway.
"Drivers please adapt to road conditions- wet roads, light poles, lack of barriers= reduce speed!" CHR yesterday: What life saving purpose do these poles serve? What is their use in the middle of a medium? Please install light poles to international standards and ensure our roads are made 'more forgiving.' Barriers needed urgently."
