Woman raped in home invasion
Northern Division police are investigating a report that a 22-year-old woman was raped during a home invasion.
The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday morning at the victim’s Wallerfield home.
According to police reports, the woman was at home with two other male relatives, a 50-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, when they were awakened by a loud noise.
Two men, one armed with a firearm, forced their way into the home and tied up the male adults.
They them took the 22-year-old into a bedroom where they sexually assaulted her.
The men then fled the scene in an AD wagon belonging to one of the victims.
Arima police are continuing inquiries.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old Freeport man is expected to re-appear before a Chaguanas Magistrate today in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of a 32-year-old woman.
The accused, taxi-driver Mahendra Sookhan, is before the courts on allegations and made his first appearance before Magistrate Sherene Murray-Bailey, yesterday.
PC Avinash Sookai of the Freeport CID is the complainant in the matter.
Defence attorney Taradath Singh is representing Sookhan’s interests.
Sookhan faces six charges which stem from the incident which allegedly took place last Thursday in Freeport.
It has been alleged that the woman had entered Sookhan’s vehicle at St Mary’s Junction Freeport at about 8am that day, and asked to be taken to a particular destination.
However, she was allegedly taken to a bushy area near Freeport, where she was raped.
The woman was then dropped off, and a report was made to the police.
Sookhan was held some hours later.
The matter was adjourned to today for further submissions on whether the 34-year-old should be granted bail.
