Woman remains hospitalised in serious condition after weekend shooting

A 57-year-old woman is warded in a serious but stable condition at the Port of Spain General Hospital following a shooting incident in Petit Valley.

The woman, identified as Acquron Alexander, was injured in a shootout between bandits and a retired police officer on Saturday afternoon.

According to police reports, around 5pm on Saturday, a group of men were liming at a shed at the corner of Morne Coco Road and Ravine Road, Petit Valley, when they were approached by two armed men.

The men announced a hold up and began to relieve the group of their valuables.

However, one of the men in the group was a retired police officer, who had his licensed firearm in his possession.

The man pulled out his weapon and shot at the two assailants.

The assailants fired back, and fled the scene in a vehicle which was parked a short distance away.

During the exchange, Alexander was hit in the back and stomach.

She was rushed for treatment and is said to still be warded at hospital nursing her injuries.

Police reports indicate that she was shot in the crossfire by the bandits as they escaped.

Anyone with information which could lead to the identification of the two assailants is asked to contact the nearest police station, or the police anonymously through 555 or 800-TIPS.
