Woman robbed of over $150K in PoS

A 51-year-old woman was robbed of cash and valuables totaling over $150,000 in Port of Spain on Monday.

According to reports, around 9.21 am on Monday, the victim was walking west along Independence Square, Port of Spain, when upon nearing Charlotte Street, she was accosted by a man.

The woman was relieved of a black bag she was carrying, and the assailant then escaped in a white Nissan vehicle, registered PBH 6272.

While the woman was not physically harmed, the bag she was carrying, police were told, contained a cheque for TT$134,606.75,  TT$6,356 in cash (property of her employer), and $20,530 in cash.

It is suspected that the assailant knew the woman was in possession of the money.

An all points bulletin has been issued, and police are searching for the thief.

Investigators are expected to review CCTV footage from businesses in the area to help further confirm the suspect’s identity.
