Woman shot, injured in home invasion

A 41-year-old woman is nursing a gunshot injury following a home invasion in Arima on Monday night.

The victim told police that around 7.30 pm she returned to her home along Tumpuna Gardens, Arima, along with a 56-year-old relative, after going to Massy Stores in Arima.

Upon arrival at their home, they were ambushed by three masked men – one of whom was armed with a firearm.

The men relieved the two of their cash, cellular phones, and jewellery.

They then forced the two into the house and made them to lie on the floor of the home. However, while on the floor, a loud explosion was heard, and the 41-year-old woman felt a burning sensation to her right shoulder.

The suspects then fled the scene and made good their escape in a silver vehicle which was waiting outside.

The police and paramedics were notified and the injured woman was rushed to the Arima hospital.
