Women caught smuggling cigarettes, weed into Arouca prison

Two women are expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate today on allegations that they attempted to smuggle contraband items into the Golden Grove Prison in Arouca.

The items included marijuana, wrapping paper, and cigarettes.

They were allegedly found strapped to the bodies of the two women – both aged 27 – as they attempted to enter the prison on Friday afternoon.

The prison officers were alerted to the presence of the contraband by sniffer dogs.

The dogs had been brought into the prison following a discovery last week of contraband items outside of the prison wall.

As a result of the finds, the two women, from Couva and Cunupia, are expected to be brought before the courts today.
