Workplace messaging platform Slack hit by major outage, services resume

The workplace messaging platform Slack has experienced a major outage on Wednesday morning.

Initial reports indicated that messages were not being transferred between contacts.

Slack said on its website on Wednesday that it was experiencing connectivity issues across "all workspaces" and is investigating the reason behind it. The company was keeping its users up-to-date on the outage with regular updates on Twitter, with the software firm's social media team working furiously to reply to people's complaints. It posted at one point: "Deep breaths. We'll make it through this."

Just before 1PM EST, the company tweeted that services were up and running, apologising for the inconvenience.

Launched in 2014, the instant messaging tool has helped streamline workplace communications and improve collaboration between employees. It has over eight million daily active users.

Reports also surfaced about issues with Google Home, as well as outages with video game Fortnite and cloud-based messaging platform Telegram.
