Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinan, visited the completed road improvement project at Leemond Road, Fishing Pond last Friday.

The improvement initiative to optimise the water supply to home in the area involved the laying of underground pipes which caused considerable damage to the roadway, the Ministry said in a release.

Sinan and MP Christine Newallo-Hosein visited the area in April to view the works to be done, following which repair work began.

"For years residents of the Fishing Pond community have been clamouring for improved roads. Minister Sinanan delivered on his promise as this project formed part of the Ministry's list of priority initiatives out of his current nationwide constituency tours," the Ministry said.

Sinanan said he was heartened by the fact that resources were available to initiate a joint venture with WASA to provide relief to residents in the area.

"Following this decision to intervene, permanent road restoration began on May 19, 2017 from the corner of the Eastern Main Road, Oropouche to Leemond Junction, a distance of of 6.1 km. As a result, the road is now smooth and clear for use," the Ministry said.

The Ministry added that residents' access in and out of the area has been restored for greater safety, convenience and safety.

Sinanan said,"Transportation is the key to our prosperity. Greater connectivity throughout Trinidad and Tobago creates opportunity for more people working together to build a thriving, sustainable future."
