WPC in critical condition after being set on fire

A member of the Coast Guard is in custody after a police officer was set on fire.

While information is still coming in, the incident reportedly took place around 4 am on Sunday at the officer’s home along Boundary Road, San Juan.

The WPC, who is said to be attached to the Police Administration Unit, was involved in an altercation with a 33-year-old man who is known to her.

During the altercation, the man allegedly doused the woman police officer with a flammable substance and set her on fire.

Persons in the area, on hearing the commotion, raised an alarm and rushed to the woman’s aid.

She was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where she was treated.

Police say the victim is in a critical condition.

A suspect is currently in custody, aiding police with inquiries.
