Barcelona's Alcacer finally scores to spark win over Bilbao

lcacer, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal all scored to lead Barcelona to a 3-0 win over visiting Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. The win moved the defending champions to within one point of Spanish league leader Real Madrid, which have played two fewer matches.

Alcacer used one touch of his left boot to drive Neymar's pass under goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz's glove and put Barcelona ahead in the 18th minute at Camp Nou.

Barcelona sack director after Messi comments

Gratacos, the director of Institutional Relations and of training and education, and a key figure in the development of the heralded youth system, suggested on Friday that Messi would not be the same player without the likes of Andres Iniesta and Neymar.

"Barcelona are not here only because of Messi," he said at the draw for the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.

"He's very important but it was the team who won [against Athletic Bilbao in the last 16]. Without Neymar, Luis Suarez, [Andres] Iniesta, [Gerard] Pique and the others, he wouldn't be such a good player."

Ronaldo out of Madrid squad for Sevilla clash

Ronaldo also missed the first leg of the round of 16 tie, with Madrid cruising to a 3-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu without their star attacker.

He then returned to the starting XI for the 5-0 win over Granada at the weekend, but will be allowed to sit out Thursday's clash again.

Modric, meanwhile, has featured for the full 90 minutes in Madrid's first two games of 2017, but Zidane does not need the Croatia international at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Ronaldo values Champions League over Barcelona's double

Cristiano Ronaldo says Real Madrid winning the Champions League would be a greater achievement than Barcelona's double this season.

Barca president Bartomeu could miss Copa final as protest

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu could miss the Copa del Rey final in protest against the banning of Catalan flags at the event, according to vice-president Carles Vilarrubi.

Barca will be looking to complete a domestic double when they take on Europa League winners Sevilla at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid on Sunday.

UEFA handed the Camp Nou club a fine following the appearance of Catalan flags in last season's Copa final and Madrid governor Concepcion Dancausa confirmed they would be banned from this weekend's match.

Barca fume at Catalan flag ban

Barcelona have hit out at the banning of Catalan flags at the Copa del Rey final.

Barca face Sevilla at Madrid's Vicente Calderon on Sunday as they look to round off a league and cup double.

The Camp Nou club were fined by UEFA after last season's Copa final over the appearance of Catalan flags - a move vice-president Carles Vilarrubi branded "monstrous". 

Madrid governor Concepcion Dancausa said the final "must not be made a scene of political struggle" as she confirmed Catalan flags would be banned on Sunday, a decision that has been met with anger in Barcelona.

Barcelona win La Liga title

The defending champions made light work of the home side courtesyt of a hat-trick from Luis Suarez, who claims the Pichichi prize for top scorer after finishing on 40 for the season.

Suarez struck twice in the first half against a Granada side who had little to play for, after they secured their survival with a 4-1 win over Sevilla last week.

Treble beckons for Barcelona – Xavi

Barcelona legend Xavi has backed Luis Enrique's squad to make history and replicate last season's domestic and European treble.

Wednesday's 3-1 victory over Arsenal in the Champions League ensured Barca's place in the last eight of the competition, the Catalan giants progressing 5-1 on aggregate.

As they edge closer to becoming the first side to retain the Champions League, Luis Enrique's side are also eight points clear at the top of La Liga and into the final of the Copa del Rey – where they will face Sevilla on May 22.
