108 prisoners test positive for COVID-19

The Health Ministry said 126 additional people have tested positive for COVID-19 – of that number, 108 are from the prison system.

In today’s update, the Ministry said the positive cases reflect samples taken from November 19-21.

The Ministry said the total number of active cases now stands at 725.

Meanwhile, three people were discharged from public health facilities, along with 11 recovered community cases.

The Ministry said there are currently 44 patients at hospital: 34 at the Couva Hospital, with three in ICU and five in HDU; nine at the Caura Hospital, and one at St Ann’s Hospital.

There are currently 526 COVID-19 patients in home isolation, with 178 patients in state quarantine facilities.

There are 29 patients in step-down facilities: 17 at the Claxton Bay Correctional Facility and 12 at the UWI, Debe campus.

The public is advised to maintain health and safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and continue to monitor the Ministry’s updates via official channels.
