There were happy faces and grateful smiles as fifty lucky winners were presented with laptops courtesy of Persad’s D Food King (PDFK) Group last month.

Even before the government’s clarion call on the business community to assist with the provision of devices for online learning to students in need, the PDFK Group had already birthed the Persad’s D Food King and Bright Ideas 50 Lucky Students Can Win a Laptop promotion

In a statement the PDFK Group said the promotion was well-received and well-timed as students returned to school under the new distance learning arrangements put in place to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The said: “The promotion was overwhelmingly subscribed to by all our customers at our nine Persad’s D Food King Supermarket locations as well as our seven Bright Ideas locations across the country. All the entry boxes were taken to our newest Marabella Persad’s D Food King location where the winners from each location’s entry boxes were drawn live on Synergy TV as well as live on our social media pages.”

On September 12, the 50 lucky winners collected their laptops at Bright Ideas in Marabella.

Some students collected their devices personally, while others’ relatives and guardians collected on their behalf.

In explaining their decision to launch the promotion, the PDFK Group said a fundamental principle of their vision is creating an empowered Trinidad and Tobago.

They said: “Our nation’s founding father Dr Eric Williams prophesied ‘The future of our nation lies in our children’s book bags’. Today the new learning environment dictated by the pandemic has required those words to be upgraded to ‘The Future of Our Nation depends on Our Children being Connected to the World Wide Web. Every child must be equipped with the relevant technology to be connected to that future.’”
