58-year-old man granted bail after sexually assaulting teenager

A 58-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old child was granted bail after appearing in court this week.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said in a statement that the Sangre Grande man, who was not named, was charged with four counts of sexual penetration and appeared before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

He was granted bail in the sum of $150,000.

He was also ordered to stay at least 300 feet away from, as well as to have no contact with the victim. The matter was postponed to July 30, 2020.

The TTPS said a report was made to the Child Protection Unit (CPU) on January 24, 2020, by the 15-year-old victim.

Investigations revealed that the assault allegedly occurred over a five-year period from May 2015 to January 2020.

The accused was formally charged after surrendering to officers on Wednesday.

Investigations were spearheaded by Ag W/Supt George, Ag ASP Sookdeo, supervised by W/Insp Bain-Keller and conducted by PC Mahabir.
