A total of 93 Venezuelan nationals were repatriated to their country on Friday.

According to reports, the group included refugees and asylum seekers who were being housed at the Immigration Detention Centre and the Chaguaramas Heliport.

Attorney CJ Williams filed judicial review for 29 of the Venezuelan nationals with refugee status on Friday.

However, the nationals were already repatriated by the time the leave was granted.

National Security Minister Stuart Young told Loop News the process was done in accordance with the laws of Trinidad and Tobago.

He said: “All Venezuelans who were repatriated yesterday were repatriated in accordance with the laws of Trinidad and Tobago.”

In August, Amnesty International condemned the repatriation of 165 Venezuelans who had entered Trinidad and Tobago illegally.

It accused Trinidad and Tobago of violating international law.
