Ahloy Hunt, brother of former PNM minister, to contest St Joseph seat

Former Lieutenant Colonel Ahloy Hunt has been selected as the UNC’s candidate for the St Joseph constituency in the upcoming general elections.

He is the brother of former PNM Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Gary Hunt.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the announcement while speaking at virtual political meeting on Thursday night.

"I have a candidate coming for you Deyalsingh in St Joseph and we will rock St Joseph and we will win St Joseph. What's his name. His name is Alhoy Hunte. He has a master's in criminology from Cambridge University. He is a former soldier of Trinidad and Tobago. He is also a very kind and gentle human being. Yes, he is the brother of Gary Hunt, former PNM minister. But, he is a man on his own and he has pledged his life to Trinidad and Tobago to serve our country," she said.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the Opposition Leader said Hunt is a highly qualified security expert, having worked in this field for over 30 years.

He is also a former member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Hunt, she said has helped develop the operation divisions of the Special Anti-crime Unit and Strategic Services Agency.

He also completed the redesign and construction of the National Operation Centre command center and reconstituted the Second Infantry Battalion of the Regiment.

Hunte is currently on the security team at Trinidad Generation Unlimited.
