United National Congress (UNC) Tabaquite candidate Anita Haynes is urging Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to "beg Tobago for forgiveness."

According to reports, Dr Rowley said he would not forgive Tobagonians if they elected Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) political leader Watson Duke to Parliament.

Speaking at the UNC's virtual political meeting on Thursday night, Haynes described the Prime Minister's remarks as "shameless."

"Keith Rowley is now openly threatening citizens of our country, saying he will not forgive them if they do not vote for him. Never before have we seen such boldfaceness and shamelessness in Government. This arrogance is destroying everything in our blessed country."

"Threatening people to say that you will not forgive them if they don't choose you, these aren't the words of a leader. These are the words of an abuser. It is gaslighting the nation. That is exactly what the people of Trinidad and Tobago have had to endure in the past five years, abuse and neglect along with threats," she stated.

The UNC Tabaquite candidate said the Prime Minister should apologise to Tobagonians.

"I want to tell Keith Rowley tonight, you should go on your knees and beg Tobago for forgiveness, and beg Trinidad for forgiveness."

She said Tobago has had to endure months of shortage of goods as a result of issues with the sea bridge.

Haynes added that Tobago's tourism sector was also "brought to its knees."

"You only have took around our country to see the bruises and marks this PNM administration has left on our nation. You only have to look at what Keith Rowley has done when he first damaged the sea bridge. Imagine all of the time the sea bridge was working fine and then under Rowley collapsed."
