Cops arrest two Morvant men a year after Westmoorings larceny
Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a break-in and larceny which occurred almost one year ago in Westmoorings.
Twenty-three-year-old Jahmali Haywood of Second Caledonia, Morvant was arrested and charged in March 2020.
Investigations continued and a second suspect, 21-year-old Akil Omali Haywood of Romain Lands, Morvant, was arrested on September 11.
He was formally charged on September 14.
The investigation which began on September 19, 2019 was supervised by Insp Grant and enquiries were conducted by officers of the Four Roads Criminal Investigations Department (CID). It also included the Western Division Gang Unit, North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), Crime Scene Investigation and video footage extracted by the Western Division Operations Centre (WDOC). This led to the identification of several suspects and culminated in the arrest of the two men.
Several other men from the Morvant area have also been identified as part of a ring responsible for similar offences committed in the Western Division.
Police said around 9:30 am on September 19 last year, the victim secured his home before leaving. He returned around 5 pm and observed that the burglar proofing on the kitchen window had been pried open. The house had been ransacked and several items including jewellery, a Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Wii totalling US$228,000 were missing as well as US$2,500 and TT$6,000 in cash.
