Retired cops nab suspect moments after Rio Claro robbery

The immediate leap into action by two retired police officers following a robbery in Rio Claro on Friday afternoon is being praised by senior officers in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

According to police reports, around 12.05 pm retired sergeants Richard Knights and Rabindranath Dookie were outside of Robin's Bar along High Street, when they observed a man fleeing the Flourishing Supermarket, with a mask on his face.

The owner of the supermarket came outside and raised an alarm and both Dookie and Knights gave chase.

They held the man a short distance away and allegedly found in his possession a mask, a knife, and a quantity of cash.

The two retired officers notified officers in the Rio Claro Police Station and the suspect was handed over.

Police were told that he had robbed the cashier of the supermarket at knifepoint, prior to his apprehension.

The stolen cash, police said, had been recovered due to the swift work of the retired sergeants.
