Couple to be questioned after assault of elderly man, grandson

A Penal couple is expected to be questioned following allegations that they assaulted a 64-year-old man and his 14-year-old grandson.

The incident took place around 7.40 pm on Tuesday, at the family’s home off Station 10, Penal Quinam Road.

Police were told that the 64-year-old man was sitting outside the house when he was approached by a man and a woman known to him.

It is alleged a confrontation ensued, during which the older man was assaulted and allegedly hit with an iron bar. The 14-year-old, police were told, attempted to intervene, and was slapped to the face, and hit about the body.

The couple then attempted to gain entry to the home, however, it was locked.

They then broke a window before fleeing the scene.

Police were told that the incident is believed to have stemmed from the family being one of the only persons in that area with electricity in their home, provided via a solar panel supply.

More on this as it becomes available.
