The Ministry of National Security has accepted 20 deportees from the United States of America as part of their repatriation process to free space in their criminal system due to COVID-19.

Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh made the announcement in the virtual press briefing held today.

Two female deportees are being housed at the University of the West Indies’ Debe Campus. Another facility has been set up for the male deportees.

“We have operationalised, for the male deportees, a facility; Vision on Mission in Claxton Bay which is under our care and we have 18 male deportees there. They are being swabbed today and again we hope and pray for the best,” Deyalsingh said.

The deportees likely returned last night. This means that their quarantine period begins today.
