A Cuban national has been charged with the murder of Venezuelan national, Jhandrys Espinoza.

The 32-year-old woman, who was a Venezuelan national, was three months pregnant when she was killed.

Loop News was told that investigators approached the Director of the Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC, yesterday on how they should legally proceed against Aroldo Vidal Gutierrez, who was detained immediately following Espinoza’s death.

Instructions were given to charge the man with the offence of murder.

According to police reports, around 7.45pm last Thursday (October 22), Espinoza and the suspect had a confrontation at their home in Flagstaff Hill, St James.

During the confrontation, Espinoza was strangled.

Neighbours who heard the commotion notified the police and Espinoza's body was found in the bedroom of her home.

Just last month, another Venezuelan woman, Joanna Diaz, was reported missing and later found dead in a cesspit, in an unrelated incident. A Couva man who was known to her was charged with her murder.
