Under the new Public Health Ordinance which governs the closure of bars for the next month, owners could face a fine of up to $50,000 if they don’t comply. The ordinance forms part of the Miscellaneous Provisions (2019 Novel Coronavirus [2019-nCoV]) Bill, 2020.
The previous fine was $480.
The bill also covers subsets of a number of other laws, including those that govern clubs, cinemas and the motor vehicles.
The bill was passed unanimously, with amendments during an extraordinary parliamentary sitting in the Red House today.
