First set of Salary Relief Grants wired to bank accounts of recipients

The first set of Salary Relief Grants of $1,500 per month was wired to the bank accounts of recipients on Tuesday evening.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert provided an update on the grant payments in a social media post on Wednesday.

"This will continue on a daily basis. These grants are designed to assist persons in the NIS system who have lost their jobs or incomes as a result of COVID-19," he said.

On Monday, Imbert revealed that the first batch of 1,000 Salary Relief Grants were processed and authorised.

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister revealed that grants of US$300 (TT$2,000) for food supplies have been wired to the Campus Bursars at UWI Mona in Jamaica and Cavehill in Barbados.

Imbert said these grants will be distributed by UWI to the 184 students who are not on scholarship.

He said scholarship winners have already received their regular allowances.
